Providing counselling services to private and NDIS clients across Brisbane and surrounds

About Lionlight Counselling

At Lionlight Counselling, I believe counselling should feel like a place where you can breathe, be heard, and be yourself - without judgement.

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, and you don't have to navigate those difficult moments alone. Lionlight Counselling offers a safe, compassionate and person-centred space to explore what you're experiencing, understand yourself more deeply, and find ways forward that feel right for you.

My approach recognises that every person is different. There is no one-size-fits-all way of working, so sessions are shaped around your individual needs, experiences, goals and strengths. Whether you're working through anxiety, stress, grief, trauma, relationships, self-esteem, life changes or simply feeling stuck, counselling can provide a space to slow down and make sense of things.

You are the expert in your own life. Our role is not to tell you what you should do, but to walk alongside you - offering support, understanding, new perspectives and practical tools while respecting your choices and autonomy.

Lionlight Counselling is also committed to creating an inclusive and neurodivergent-friendly environment where people can feel comfortable being themselves.

You don't have to have everything figured out before you reach out. Sometimes, taking the first step is enough.

Frequently Asked Questions

Counselling is a space where you can talk openly, without judgement, and explore what is happening in your life. Sessions are guided by your individual needs, goals and preferences. We can work together to better understand challenges, develop practical strategies and build on your existing strengths.

Not at all. You don't need to have everything figured out before you come to counselling. Sometimes knowing that something doesn't feel right is enough to begin. We can take things at your pace and work out together what would be most helpful.

What you share in counselling is treated respectfully and confidentially, within the limits of Australian law and professional obligations. There are some circumstances where confidentiality may need to be limited, such as concerns about serious and imminent risk of harm or where disclosure is required by law. These boundaries will be discussed with you as part of the counselling process.

Yes. Lionlight Counselling provides a neurodivergent-friendly approach and aims to create a space where you don't have to mask, explain yourself or fit into a particular way of communicating. Sessions can be adapted to suit your communication style, needs and preferences.

Yes. Counselling may be available to eligible NDIS participants, depending on their plan and the goals they are working towards. If you are unsure whether counselling can be funded through your NDIS plan, we can discuss your circumstances before booking.

Walk-and-talk therapy combines counselling with gentle movement in an outdoor setting. Rather than sitting in a traditional therapy room, sessions take place while walking together. This can feel more natural and comfortable for some people, particularly those who find traditional face-to-face counselling environments overwhelming.

Your safety and comfort come first. If weather conditions make an outdoor session unsuitable, we can reschedule or discuss an alternative such as telehealth. There is no cancellation fee when a walk-and-talk session needs to be changed because of unsuitable weather.

Yes. Life happens, and sometimes appointments need to change. At least 24 hours' notice is requested for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations may incur a fee, and missed appointments may be charged at the full session rate.

Counselling is not an emergency or crisis service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, please contact emergency services or attend your nearest emergency department. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please seek immediate support from an appropriate crisis or health service.

That's completely okay. You don't need any previous counselling experience to get started. Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, talk about what has brought you to counselling and discuss what you would like support with. There is no expectation that you have the "right" words or know exactly where to begin.

About the Counsellor

About the Counsellor

Hi, I'm Tans Smith, an ACA level 2 counsellor and founder of Lionlight Counselling.

I provides a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can feel truly heard and supported. I am known for being empathic, approachable and easy to talk to, helping clients feel comfortable as they navigate life's challenges at their own pace.

I take an integrative approach to counselling, tailoring each session to meet your unique needs, experiences and goals. Whether you are seeking support through a difficult time or looking to better understand yourself, I work collaboratively with you to encourage insight, resilience and meaningful change.

I offer support across a range of areas, including NDIS, grief and loss, trauma, anxiety and stress, self-esteem and personal development, relationships and couples therapy, family concerns, career direction and school or workplace challenges. I also provide general counselling for anyone wanting a safe space to talk and reflect.

The name Lionlight represents the courage it takes to face life's difficulties and the strength within you to move toward healing and growth. My aim is to help you reconnect with that inner strength, find clarity and move forward with greater confidence and balance.
